Why teams move
Circle is familiar. The economics are the problem.
Circle has a mature community product and a long track record. For many operators, the question is not whether Circle can host a community. The question is whether a growing paid community should keep paying a platform percentage forever.
Mobieus is built around a different model: a published subscription, direct Stripe connection, zero platform fees on course sales, mobieusMarket, paid forums, and member payments, and the full suite (help desk, learning, knowledge base) bundled from Pro upward.
How Circle spaces map to Mobieus
Circle spaces usually map cleanly into Mobieus forums and categories. Public or member-wide spaces become top-level forums. Cohort-specific spaces become private forums or sub-communities. Announcement spaces become locked announcement forums. Resource spaces become file libraries or pinned resource threads.
| Circle structure | Mobieus destination |
|---|---|
| Public space | Open forum or category |
| Private space | Private forum or sub-community |
| Course/cohort space | mobieusLearn course plus discussion forum |
| Resource space | Download library plus pinned threads |
| DMs | Private messaging, 1:1 and group |
Courses and live streams
Circle course content should be inventoried before export. Lessons, files, and cohort notes can move into mobieusLearn. Live stream history depends on how recordings were stored. If recordings live in an external service, the migration usually means preserving links and embedding them into lessons or resource posts.
The cleanest migration separates the learning material from the discussion history: put course content in mobieusLearn, then map the surrounding conversation into the relevant community forum.
The fee math
If your community processes $20,000 per month in member payments, a 1% platform fee is $200 per month. A 2.9% platform fee is $580 per month. Mobieus charges zero platform fees on your commerce revenue. Stripe still charges its normal processing fees, but Mobieus does not take a percentage of course sales, mobieusMarket, paid forums, or member payments.
For operators with meaningful revenue, the annual fee difference can exceed the entire Mobieus subscription.
The six-step migration runbook
- Inventory your Circle spaces. List every space, privacy rule, course, resource, and member segment.
- Export members and content. Pull the cleanest available exports and preserve original IDs where possible.
- Design the Mobieus structure. Decide which spaces become forums, courses, file libraries, or private sub-communities.
- Stage the tenant. Import content into a non-public tenant and review permissions before inviting members.
- Invite members. Send a clear migration email with what moved, what changed, and how to claim access.
- Keep Circle read-only briefly. Do not delete the old community immediately. Give members a transition window.
What changes for members?
Members will claim or create their Mobieus account. The migration creates the destination account records, then members sign in through a passwordless email flow or supported identity provider. On Sovereign, SAML / SSO can handle identity for organization deployments.
When to talk before moving
Talk to us before committing if your Circle community has complex automations, custom workflows, extensive course history, or sensitive membership segmentation. We will be candid about what migrates cleanly and what needs careful handling.
