Why hosts move

Mighty Networks works until the economics stop working.

Mighty Networks gives hosts a branded app and a flexible content model. For early communities, that simplicity is attractive. But as the community grows and revenue increases, two things change: the platform fee becomes a real line item, and the limitations of the topic-based structure start constraining what you can build.

Mobieus replaces the Mighty model with threaded forums, a built-in help desk, a SCORM-compliant LMS, a community knowledge base, file exchange, marketplace options, direct Stripe, and zero platform fees on course sales, mobieusMarket, paid forums, and member payments.

The fee math

Mighty Networks charges 0.5% to 2% on transactions depending on the plan. On a community doing $15,000/month in member payments, a 2% fee is $300/month or $3,600/year. Mobieus charges zero platform fees on course sales, mobieusMarket, paid forums, and member payments. Stripe still charges its standard processing rate, but Mobieus does not add a percentage on top of your commerce revenue.

Over a multi-year period, the difference compounds. For hosts with growing revenue, the platform fee becomes a permanent tax that scales with success.

How Mighty topics map to Mobieus

Mighty Networks organizes content into Spaces, each containing Topics. Topics are flat-threaded: a post with replies. Mobieus forums use full threading: nested replies, pinned threads, moderation per-forum, and structured categories.

Courses and live streams

Mighty Networks courses live inside Spaces. When migrating, separate the course content (lessons, files, media) from the discussion (topic posts about the course). Put the structured content into mobieusLearn courses. Put the surrounding conversation into a linked discussion forum.

Live stream recordings depend on where Mighty stored them. If they are in an external service, preserve the links and embed them into course lessons or resource threads.

What changes for members

The biggest shift is structural. Mighty's app-like experience gives way to Mobieus's threaded forum model. Members get deeper discussion tools, private messaging, file libraries, and a help desk, but the navigation model is different.

Communicate the change before migrating. Explain what stays the same (the community, the people, the content) and what improves (real threads, direct messaging, file downloads, help desk support, zero platform fees on course sales, mobieusMarket, and member payments).

The migration runbook

  1. Audit your Mighty Spaces. Map every Space, its privacy setting, its content type (discussion, course, events), and its active member count.
  2. Export what you can. Pull member lists, post content, course materials, and file attachments. Mighty's export tools vary by plan.
  3. Design the Mobieus structure. Decide which Spaces become forums, courses, file libraries, or private sub-communities.
  4. Stage the tenant. Import into a non-public Mobieus tenant. Review permissions, test sign-in, verify content.
  5. Communicate the move. Send a clear email: what moved, what is new, how to sign in, and where to get help.
  6. Keep Mighty read-only. Do not delete the old community immediately. Let members transition at their own pace.

When Mobieus is not the right fit

If you need a branded native app above all else and your community does not have significant transaction volume, Mighty may still work. Mobieus is for hosts who want deeper forum structure, integrated support and learning, data ownership, and zero platform fees on your commerce revenue.
